Swiss Volvo Driver Keeps Warm the Traditional Way – with a Wood Burning Stove…

Here's a quick question. Who do you think is zanier: Pascal Prokop that replaced the passenger seat of his 1990 Volvo 240 station wagon with a… wood-burning stove or the Swiss authorities that approved the car and allow Prokop to use it on public roads?

While you think about it we'll tell you that Prokop told news reporters that he opted for the stove over an electric heater because he could keep former burning long after he turned off the car.

Birds on a Wire: Volvo's Teaser for the New V40 Hatchback

While Volvo is not quite ready yet to lift the covers off the all-new V40 compact hatch, the Swedish automaker has published a new 30-second clip called "Birds on a wire" to promote the individuality of the five-door hatchback model, without actually showing the car itself.

The V40 is set to make its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in the beginning of March. It will rival the five-door versions of the BMW 1-Series and the Audi A3 Sportsback. Volvo has not yet clarified if it will also present a replacement for the three-door C30.

SPIED: 2013 Volvo V40 Snagged Playing Around in the Snow [with Video]

In what could be our final round of spy photos of the upcoming Volvo V40 (or at least those picturing prototypes with heavy camouflage), our diligent spies snapped the five-door hatchback model as it was completing its winter tests on the snow.

Volvo Cars CEO Stefan Jakoby gave us a sneak peek of the new V40 at an interview with Hakan Matson, chairman of the European Car of the Year Jury, on Friday, where he also revealed that the car will be officially introduced at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show next March.

During the interview, Jakoby said that he is "extremely positive" and "really excited" about the V40, which will be positioned against the five-door variants of the Audi A3 and BMW 1-Series as well as the Lexus CT200 h.

Captured on Camera: Russian Style Highway Robbery in a Volvo S80

Unless these men had one drink too many and were in desperate need to use the can, we are forced to conclude from what we see in this video footage sourced from a dashboard camera mounted on a trailing vehicle, that they either clobbered or stole from someone, perhaps even both.

The clip starts with a black Volvo S80 driving normally on a traffic jammed road, allegedly somewhere in Moscow, Russia, but as soon as the cars in front stop, the driver pulls the vehicle diagonally on the road and then three men dressed in black jump out of the car.

Video: Hotted up 1967 Volvo Amazon Kombi Plays Around with Ferrari 458 Italia

While a 1967 Volvo Amazon Kombi may seem like one of the last cars you'd consider putting up against a Ferrari 458 Italia, it doesn’t take long to see that this Swede is not your run-of-the-mill station wagon.

The team over at GTBOARD, which uploaded the video on Youtube, didn't provide any supplementary information on the Amazon, but looking through our archives we discovered that this particular modified Volvo is most likely the same car that was displayed at the 2006 SEMA Show, albeit updated with several tuning goods.

The one at the Las Vegas show sported a 600 horsepower six-cylinder engine. Scroll down to watch it in action.

Volvo Releases Videos Documenting the Development of the C30 Electric

Almost every carmaker already has, or is currently developing, at least one electric vehicle in its range. Volvo is part of that group and it has been testing its C30 Electric since autumn of 2010.

In June, the compact all-electric Volvo entered production –albeit at a limited rate, since it will be available for leasing only to a select number of European buyers.

U SPY: 2014 Volvo V30 Scooped on Film as Well

As a refresher for those of you that missed our previous story, the V30 is the five-door version of the next generation C30. It is expected to launch within the next two years providing the Swedish firm with direct rival to the Audi A3 Sportback and its kind in the premium hatchback category.

Volvo Says Dankeschön to Germans for Ranking the Brand First in Customer Satisfaction

We'll have to wait and see if and when an American carmaker will provide an appropriate answer to Audi's new A6 commercial, but meanwhile here's a fresh and rather witty TV spot from Volvo that thanks German drivers for making the Swedish company the number 1 brand for customer satisfaction in Germany.

Cleverly, the Swedes also say Dankeschön (thank you in German) to the country's car manufacturers such as Audi, BMW, Opel, Mercedes, Volkswagen and Porsche for their...participation, and all this under the beautiful sounds of Bert Kaempfert's famous tune, "Danke Schoen".

Video: Volvo…960…Stretch…Limousine…Slow…Burn…Out

A Volvo and especially a 960 that has been transformed into a stretch limousine is a very unlikely candidate for a wild burnout. And true enough, as you can see in the video clip after the break, it's like watching the entire scene in slow moooooootion…

Junk TV: Netherland’s Worst Driver Confirms his Credentials

From the imaginative world of TV reality shows comes our next story. The show in question is “Wie wordt De Allerslechtste Chauffeur Van Nederland?” which is Dutch for “Who is the Worst Driver in The Netherlands?”

However, once you watch the video after the break, you may considering an alternative title in the likes of “Who is the Most Idiotic Reality TV Show Producer in the World” since the enlightened creators of the show came up with the fabulous idea of testing Netherlands' most incompetent drivers on an unsafe course.

Volvo C30 Electric Undergoes Harsh Winter Testing in the Extreme North

One of the major fears consumers have regarding electric vehicles, besides range anxiety, is how these cars are going to function in rough weather conditions. We all know batteries are sensitive to extreme temperatures, which can affect their capacity of storing electricity.

This is why Volvo is trying out its C30 Electric model in the north of Sweden, inside the Arctic Circle. Temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius are something normal in this part of the world, so Volvo engineers want to ensure the battery-powered car runs smoothly even in harsh environments.

Vehicle Platooning Could be the Future of Commuting [with Video]

Imagine safely enjoying your morning coffee and reading the newspaper behind the steering wheel, while your car is traveling at highway speeds. Well, this could be a reality in as little as ten years time, thanks (or no thanks...) to the European Union-funded SARTRE (Safe Road Trains for the Environment) project, which successfully tested the concept of vehicle platooning at the Volvo Proving Ground close to Gothenburg, Sweden.

VIDEO: Race Driver Fast Laps NZ Circuit in New Volvo S60 Blindfolded!

And you thought your latest weekend track race was adrenaline-filled... Enter the realm of Jonny Reid, one of New Zealand's top racing drivers. The 27-year-old Kiwi put a brand new 2011 Volvo S60 to the test around Hampton Downs raceway in Auckland. Nothing spectacular there you say? How about if we told you that he did it blindfolded? Yes, that's right; the young racing driver couldn't see a thing.

According to the promo event's organizers, it took Reid more than one try but in the end, he managed to return a lap time of 1:28 with a top speed of 193km/h (119 mph). "He was guided only by the feel of the car, his knowledge of the track, and co-driver Earl Bamber's voice," said Volvo. Pretty neat, though we're not sure who was the bravest of the two; the driver or the co-driver... Scroll down to watch the clips.
