EVO Pits Porsche Boxster Spyder Against Audi’s R8 Spyder

The second-generation of Porsche's Boxster roadster has been superseded by a brand-new model, which will make its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month. Porsche’s tradition of rolling out special editions of its standard models is legendary, but understandably, it's too early for anything other than the standard Boxster and Boxster S in its range.

Likewise, the Audi R8 is expected to get a mild facelift this year, with the most significant change being the replacement of the so-last-year single clutch semi-automatic gearbox by a modern twin-clutch transmission.

Despite all this, EVO magazine has decided to compare the 2009 Boxster Spyder against the V8 version of Audi’s R8 Spyder. The two cars have certain things in common: they are both open-top, mid-engined sports cars made by German premium manufacturers and they were launched in 2009.

Rally Legend Walter Röhrl Drives the Porsche Panamera GTS on the Track

Walter Röhrl is 65 years old but he is not a pensioner yet. The famous German driver began racing when he was 16 years old and won two world rally championships during the most dangerous era of the sport: the 1980s.

One of his most memorable quotes is about the extremely high-powered cars, like the 600HP Audi Quattro S1 that he and his colleagues were driving under minimal safety regulations: “WRC is for boys – Group B was for men”.

MT Pits 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S Aganist 2012 Corvette Grand Sport

Chevrolet's Corvette and Porsche's 911 are two of the most recognized and longest living sports car nameplates in history. Both models have evolved in many ways over the years but also remain true to their heritage.

The 2012 Porsche 911 was only just introduced into the market this year sporting an entirely new platform and a lighter body, while the sixth generation of Corvette has been with us since 2005 and has entered its final year of production as Chevrolet will present an all new model next year.

Nonetheless, since we live in the "today", Motor Trend's editor-at-large Angus MacKenzie took the 436-horsepower 2012 Corvette Grand Sport and compared it with the 400-horsepower 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S.

New Porsche 911 Spot Takes us for a Ride Back in History

There seems to be a new trend developing in new car commercials these days. The concept revolves around heritage, while a deep male voice tells a story – not so much about the car itself, but more about origins, people and company values.

It turned out so well for Chrysler with the “Imported from Detroit” campaign that its partner Fiat created a similar themed version for the new Panda.

And now Porsche has released a new commercial for the 911 talking about the car's identity. The video takes us for a ride through the years from the early days of the model to the current version codenamed 991.

2012 Infiniti M35h vs Porsche Panamera S Hybrid: And the World's Fastest Full Hybrid Model is…

If not all, most makers of hybrid automobiles focus their advertising campaigns on their vehicles' fuel economy and CO2 emission ratings, but not Infiniti that has taken a different route with its new M35h.

Following a teaser clip last week, the Japanese carmaker released the full video today of its M35h taking on the also new 2012 Porsche Panamera S Hybrid in a quarter mile drag race.

The 360-horsepower M35h completed the standing quarter mile in 13.4 seconds beating the 380-horsepower Porsche Panamera S Hybrid by about half-a-car's length, according to the video provided by Infiniti.

Is Infiniti getting Ready to Drag Race the M Hybrid Against the Porsche Panamera S Hybrid?

Just moments ago, Infiniti dropped an email into our inbox pointing us to a video on YouTube titled "What is the fastest accelerating full hybrid?" The short clip shows a driver dressed like The Stig entering a Porsche Panamera S Hybrid and getting ready to race the sports saloon in the desert.

Infiniti's email also notes, "Check out this teaser video and let us know where you think it’s going…. Don’t miss the results, coming January 23rd, 2012".

Since we find it hard to believe that the Japanese automaker would create a promotional campaign for Porsche and its new Panamera Hybrid we think it's all about showing the potential of the also new M Hybrid (called M35h in certain markets).

Spied: 2013 Porsche Cayman Snagged on Video in Stuttgart

We've scooped prototypes of the new Cayman before (see here) but YouTube user "DrGumoLunatic" was able to film the closed-top sibling of the 2013 Boxster roadster at a stop light in the German city of Stuttgart, which is the home town of Porsche.

After seeing the roadster model, we more or less know what to expect on the styling front (both inside and out) while the same goes for the rest of the changes including the new lightweight aluminum body and the improved flat six engines.

It shouldn’t be long before Porsche does reveal the Cayman, but in the meantime, make the jump to watch and hear the coupe model in the video the follows.

Video: New Porsche 911 Goes Sideways at the Silverstone Track

With no disrespect to the third generation of the brand-new Boxster roadster that was unveiled less than 24 hours ago, but the 991 still remains the quintessential Porsche.

And no petrolhead in his right mind can pass on a new video of the latest 911 - especially if it’s showing the Carrera S in some “politically incorrect” actions at the Silverstone-based Porsche Experience Center.

You can watch Gordon Robertson, who also displayed the Cayman R’s abilities in much the same way, take the new Carrera S for a four-minute spin right after the break.

New 2013 Porsche Boxster: 80 Photos, Videos and Online Configurator

Last night, Porsche lifted the covers off its all-new Boxster that will make its official world premiere at the upcoming 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March.

The two-seater roadster model will arrive in European dealerships in early April with a starting price of €48,291 (US$61,500) in Germany, followed by the U.S. later this summer with prices beginning from US$49,500 (€38,900).

The skinny on the third generation of the Boxster is that it's longer and wider, but at the same time lighter than the outgoing model, thanks to the new aluminum body and revised chassis, while it launches with a new 265HP 2.7-liter flat-six for the base model and a tweaked 3.4-liter unit with 315HP for the Boxster S.

A cleaner look with styling cues borrowed from the 918 Spyder Concept and an upgraded interior with more space and a more mature design, along with a fully automatic cloth top complete the highlights.

Independent Directors Create Promotional Clips for Porsche

Over the years, the Porsche 911 has earned a reputation of being one of a few true sports cars that can be driven on a regular basis, day-in, day-out. That comes in sharp contrast to some of its rivals that pose many limitations and as a result, their owners reserve them for special occasions – hence the extra-low mileage of used examples.

As part of a new campaign, Porsche Cars North America launched the “Everyday Magic” competition in which aspiring directors were invited to create a 60-second film about how Porsche models are practical yet at the same time almost “magical” sports cars.

Porsche Chief Driving Consultant Displays the Merits of the Cayman R

These past few months, the big news coming out from Porsche's headquarters in Stuttgart concerned the brand-new 911. And that's only natural as it’s not every day that we see a new 911 – and its most radical evolution at that.

On the other hand, the Boxster / Cayman duo is almost nowhere to be seen. That’s also to be expected: their replacements are coming next year, so the current models are more or less old news.

However, Porsche would like to remind us that the Cayman is still alive and well with a new video staring Porsche UK's Chief Driving Consultant, Gordon Robertso.

“Porsche Returns to Le Mans” Promo Video Takes us Back

Porsche is inextricably linked to Le Mans having won the famous 24-hour endurance race a record 16 times. The first win came in 1970 with the legendary 917, and the last in 1998 with the 911 GT1.

This past July, the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer announced that it will return to the La Sarthe circuit in 2014 with an official entry. Not that it has ever actually left, as numerous privately owned 911s participated each year and even the factory team won the LMP2 class in 2008 and 2009 with the RS Spyder.

Video: New Porsche 911 Carrera S [991] Goes from 0 to 300km/h on the Highway

Like every new generation of the 911, the latest incarnation of Porsche's most recognized and celebrated model series that bears the internal designation 991, continues to draw our attention well after its presentation.

In the video you're about to watch after the jump, our fellow car aficionados at Autoblog.nl took the new 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S fitted with the PDK dual-clutch transmission for a test drive that included an assessment of its top speed on what we're going to assume -for obvious reasons- is the vaunted German Autobahn.

Watch How Porsche Engineers Developed the New 911

Its shape may look very similar to the previous model, but Porsche’s 911 that made its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September is pretty much a brand-new car.

Porsche’s motto of “evolution, not revolution” clearly applies primarily to the shape of its iconic sportscar, which has been its mainstay product for more than four decades.

The French Tuning Connection: Delavilla's Widebody Porsche Cayman R1

It's not often that we get to see French tuning houses take on German sports cars, so when we stumbled upon the Delavilla-prepped Porsche Cayman R1 it immediately captured our attention.

One of the lesser-known tuners from France, Delavilla was established in 2007 and focuses exclusively on Porsche models currently offering complete programs for the Cayman and the 911 coupes. The company says that it is also working on tunes for the Speedster, the Cayenne SUV and the Panamera saloon, with more details to be released at a later date.

Back to the Cayman-based R1, the coupe model was revealed at the 2011 Lyon International Motor Show last month and it proposes a comprehensive exterior makeover along with a choice of power upgrades.

Porsche Unveils New 911 Cabriolet with Lightweight Roof Structure [with Video]

Well, that didn't take long, did it? Only a couple of months after unveiling the all-new 911 Coupe at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Porsche today revealed the Cabriolet version of its most famous model series.

As expected, Porsche opted for a soft top instead of the folding hard top utilized by some of the 911's rivals. However, the new hood does not use the multi-layered fabric structure of the previous 997 model but composite materials that are supported by a new magnesium frame, which is said to reduce its weight.

In addition, Porsche claims that the design allows the typical 911 roof line to be "retained in its entirety" on the Cabriolet model.

Under its aluminum-steel skin, the new 911 Cabriolet is identical to its fixed-roof sibling. It rides on a new platform with a longer wheelbase with power coming from the same flat-six engines in 350HP, 3.4-liter and 400HP, 3.8-liter flavors for the Carrera and Carrera S respectively, and a choice of manual or dual-clutch PDK transmissions, both with seven speeds.
